Memory-Map [Topo mode] - Displays error message "GPS: Can't open COM port" during startup

Author: Robert Taylor Reference Number: AA-00370 Views: 11793 Created: 2014-04-30 07:57 Last Updated: 2014-04-30 07:57 0 Rating/ Voters

The most likely cause of this message is that the internal GPS COM port that Memory-Map uses to talk to the GPS receiver within the Navigator has been changed in the settings.

To fix this, do the following:

Start up Memory-Map

Go through all the startup screens etc.

When it complains about "Can't open COM port", tap the Cancel button

Hopefully, at this point you can see the menu buttons etc.

Can't Open COM port message

Tap the Mode-Change icon (green with double-white arrowheads)

Memory-Map screen

Tap the Menu button (the blue button with the hammer and spanner). The menu will display.

Tap the GPS menu item

Tap the Setup... menu subitem

In this example, the port is set incorrectly to COM3:

Therefore, we need to change it to the correct port, as shown in the next step...

Make sure the Port value is set to COM7:

Then tap the OK button
